1. Purpose
This Content Policy explains how PlanFolks moderates user-generated content across the platform — including images, usernames, bios, messages, travel plans, and feed posts — to maintain a safe and trustworthy community, consistent with our Community Guidelines and Acceptable Use Policy.
2. Definitions
- User-Generated Content (UGC) — any content submitted by a User, including images, text, and structured data (e.g., travel plan details).
- Automated Moderation — content review performed by algorithmic or machine-learning tools without human review.
- Human Moderation — content review performed by PlanFolks trust & safety personnel.
3. Moderation of Profile Photos and Images
All images uploaded to PlanFolks (profile photos, travel plan images, feed posts) are subject to:
- Automated screening for nudity, sexually explicit content, violence, and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) prior to or shortly after publication.
- Human review in response to User reports or when automated tools flag content for further assessment.
- Removal of images that violate our Acceptable Use Policy, with no obligation to provide advance notice for severe violations (e.g., CSAM, graphic violence).
Prohibited image content includes nudity, sexual content, graphic violence, hate symbols, images of weapons used to threaten, and images that reveal another person's private information without consent.
4. Moderation of Usernames
Usernames must not:
- Impersonate PlanFolks staff, other Users, celebrities, or organizations.
- Contain slurs, hate speech, or sexually explicit language.
- Contain contact information (phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles) used to circumvent in-app communication.
- Infringe third-party trademarks.
Usernames violating these standards may be reset or the account may be suspended pending a change.
5. Moderation of Bios
Profile bios are subject to the same content standards as other UGC. Prohibited bio content includes:
- Solicitation of money, sexual services, or off-platform contact for commercial purposes.
- Hate speech, harassment, or threats.
- False claims of verification, affiliation with PlanFolks, or professional credentials (e.g., "PlanFolks Official," "Certified Travel Agent" without basis).
6. Moderation of Messages
Chat messages are private between participants but may be:
- Scanned by automated systems for indicators of scams, CSAM, threats of violence, or other severe safety violations.
- Reviewed by human moderators when a message is reported by a participant.
- Used as evidence in enforcement decisions or, where legally required, shared with law enforcement (see our Law Enforcement Guidelines).
We do not proactively read private messages absent a report or an automated safety flag.
7. Moderation of Travel Plans and Feed Posts
Travel plans and feed posts must accurately represent genuine travel intentions. We may remove or restrict:
- Plans that misrepresent destination, dates, or costs to deceive participants.
- Posts promoting unrelated commercial activity, spam, or scams.
- Posts containing prohibited content as described in Section 3 above.
8. Illegal Content
We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for content that is illegal under applicable law, including:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — see our Child Safety Standards.
- Content facilitating terrorism or violent extremism.
- Content facilitating human trafficking, drug trafficking, or weapons trafficking.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery.
Such content is removed immediately upon detection, the responsible account is permanently terminated, and, where required by law, reported to the relevant authorities (see our Law Enforcement Guidelines).
9. Moderation Methods
PlanFolks uses a combination of:
- Automated tools (image hashing, keyword and pattern detection, machine-learning classifiers) to detect policy violations at scale.
- User reporting via in-app "Report" functionality on profiles, messages, posts, and travel plans.
- Human review by our trust & safety team for escalated or ambiguous cases.
We continuously invest in improving our moderation systems as the platform grows.
10. Appeals
If your content is removed or your account is restricted and you believe this was made in error, you may appeal by emailing support@planfolks.com with your username and a description of the content in question. We will review appeals and respond within a reasonable timeframe, though our decision following review is final.
